Atty. John (Jack) Pico is the director of Betras, Kopp & Harshman's Domestic Relations Department. Attorney Pico joined the firm in January 2007 after serving more than nine years as a Magistrate of the Trumbull County Family Court.
A 1980 graduate of the College of Wooster, Atty. Pico received his Juris Doctor from The University of Akron in 1988. While in law school, he received American Jurisprudence Awards for demonstrated excellence in the subjects of Commercial Transactions II and Business Planning.
Atty. Pico began his legal career as an Associate Attorney with the local firm of Roth, Blair, Roberts, Strasfeld & Lodge. His areas of practice included domestic relations, employment and commercial law. During his time there, he was an instructor at The American Institute of Banking and taught classes in business law at Youngstown State University.
Attorney Pico was appointed as Magistrate in the Trumbull County Family Court in 1997. He presided over thousands of motion hearings and trials and gained valuable experience in a number of areas of domestic law including parental custody, companionship and parenting time, child support, pension and property division, spousal support, contempt, and domestic violence. While serving as Magistrate he helped redraft the Local Court Rules and completed Family and Divorce Mediation Training through the Ohio Supreme Court.
A member of the Mahoning and Trumbull County Bar Associations and the Ohio Association of Magistrates, Atty. Pico is also very active in the community. He has served on the Board of Trustees and is a past president of the Trumbull County YMCA, the Boardof The Multiple Sclerosis Services Agency of the Mahoning Valley and the Board of Interfaith Home Maintenance Service, Inc.
Atty. Pico is an accomplished athlete who has won numerous awards and championships in the Mahoning Valley in golf, basketball, football and softball. He now helps coach his daughter’s high school and elite tournament fast-pitch softball teams. A lifelong resident of the Mahoning Valley, he resides in Howland, Ohio with his wife and daughter.
